Ilya Jivoy
ILYA JIVOY
Dancer, choreographer. 

Ilya graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet specializing in ballet. Later he obtained a master’s degree in choreography from the Vaganova Ballet Academy. He joined the Mariinsky Ballet in 2008.
He has a huge background in performing classical and modern choreography and has appeared in ballets by William Forsythe, Angelin Preljocaj, Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, Dwight Roden, Hans van Manen, and Alexei Ratmansky.
He has been working as a choreographer and stage director since 2013 when he presented his first ballet, miniature “E2”, at the Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers at the Mariinsky Theater.
In 2016 Jivoy staged one-act ballet “Seasons” to the music of Max Richter (Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi The Four Seasons). The ballet was a part of the Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers that year and was a great success. After this the Mariinsky Theater signed a contract with the choreographer to create a two-act ballet to the full score. The resulting ballet “Four Seasons” went on to receive wide recognition and won Russia’s Golden Soffit Award, as well as four nominations for the prestigious Golden Mask Awards (the most prestigious theater award in St. Petersburg).
Now the Mariinsky’s repertoire includes four ballets by Ilya Jivoy which are “Four Seasons”, “Jeu de Cartes” and “Pulcinella” both to the music of Igor Stravinsky, “I’m not Scared” to the music of Ezio Bosso and The Snow Maiden opera to the music by Nikolai Romsky- Korsakov.
 
Ilya Jivoy is one of the most in demand Russian choreographers of our time with his works being staged in Germany, Switzerland, Japan, England, Spain & Croatia. As a choreographer and stage director he collaborates with the Mariinsky Theater (Russia), Origen Festival Cultural (Switzerland), Teatrum Vitae (England), is involved in the Alya Parusa (Scarlet Sails) festival in St Petersburg, Russia.
 
Jivoy creates vibrant, dynamic and incredibly emotional performances, works in various choreographic styles and applies outstanding directorial techniques.
Ilia possesses a truly unique vision and his works can be easily recognized by the elegant realization of this vision in his creations by the virtuous choreography coupled with the aesthetics of the Russian ballet school which greatly distinguishes his works from others.

In 2018, Ilya Jivoy’s production of The Four Seasons ballet was nominated for 4 Golden Mask Awards in Russia.

In 2018,  his  production of The Four Seasons ballet was honored  with St. Petersburg Higher Theatre Award Golden Sofit as the “Best performance of the Year”.
